Why Shout was so secretive about this is weird, but whatever.Īlso, we knew they changed the UPC code, but they also changed the catalog # on both the artwork, slipcover, and discs themselves between the two. So all I can guess is it must be the 5.1 dropouts. Both editions have the same 13 chapter stops. I also checked every single extra and they all have the exact same running time between both editions, so no tiny thing appears to have been snipped anywhere in the extras. The replacement edition has no drop-outs on the 5.1 in that sequence. The 2.0 track on the original pressing has no drop-outs in that sequence. There may be others during the film, but I simply checked the two scenes mentioned earlier in the thread, and this scene is the only one where I heard it drop out at all (close-up of Bobby Peru's hand opening doorknob to Rossellini's house) - 4 tiny drop-outs that most wouldn't even notice if weren't paying attention. Sent to jail, Sailor and Lula’s love only grows. Those very tiny audio dropouts occur between 1:39:01 - 1:39 10 on the 5.1 track on the original pressing. Soon enough, a hit man is after Sailor and he, because Lynch doesn’t dare skimp on the gore here, bashes his head in. Just did a bit of homework between both versions to try to get a final answer on what was the problem with the initial release, and it really does look like it was simply to fix the 4 tiny audio dropouts in the 5.1 mix.
